Mind mapping in Class

Mind mapping is introduced in form 3 and form 4 classes this year. A reading passage on Urban Migration is given to students to read. Later, there's a Q & A session to check students' understanding. The teacher then shows how to mind map the first paragraph to students. Then, in pairs students mind map the second paragraph. The last two paragraphs are left for individual work. Using only the mind map as a guide, students then tell the class about the passage (individual & pair work). It's amazing how they can use their own words to retell the passage. As an enrichment activity, the students are asked to rewrite the passage using their own words in a paragraph. Students enjoy these activities as they can be creative, they can understand the passage well and are able to use their own words in describing the passage both in spoken and written language.
