School Based Assessment for Form 1 Course

I joined the course with teachers from Jasin because I missed the Melaka Tengah course last week. The 3 - day course is held to expose the teachers of how to do School Based Assessment for English form 1. We also built sample intruments for band 1-6.
1. Band 1 : Know fundamental skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
2. Band 2 : Understand meanings of word, phrase and sentence level
3. Band 3 : Use knowledge acquired through listening, speaking, reading and writing
4. Band 4: Apply knowledge acquired in a variety of of situations using some
appropriate language conventions
5. Band 5: Demonstrate the ability to use language in a variety of situations using
largely appropriate language conventions
6. Band 6 :Appreciate bliterary works and present ideas critically in an exemplary
manner

Although the course was tiring but I enjoyed meeting new friends from schools in Jasin. 2 days later, I also had the chance to visit JPN booth and looked at SMK Seri Bendahara's PBS files during Karnival Pendidikan Melaka 2012.

Fully Residential Schools International Symposium 2012: FRSIS 2012

MOZAC hosted Fully Residential School International Symposium (FRSIS 2012) on 26 - 31 March 2012. The theme chosen is Global Culture Generates Global Unity. All 63 fully residential schools took part in this symposium along with 19 schools from abroad. The students presented papers on the theme, participated in workshops and sharing sessions and came up with 9 resolutions for FRSIS 2012. We are priviledged to listen to Tun Mahathir Muhammad's view on the theme. Dato' Zuraidah Atan also shared her view when she spoke on Cultural Diversity Promotes Mutual Respect. Datuk Seri Ali Rustam, sponsored a dinner for all the delegates on 28th March 2012. The participants performed cultural shows from their countries during the state dinner and closing ceremony. The delegates also had the chance to visit Melaka during Melaka Heritage Tour. This is a good platform for students because the delegates also had the chance to know each other's culture and foster new friendship. The symposium has achieved its objective of generating unity by understanding others' culture. All in all, we had learnt a lot especially in organising a big event such as this at international level. It is a once in a life time experience for everyone of us at MOZAC. The 3rd FRSIS will be hosted by SSP next year.

F3 New Literature Component Course

I attended this course on 22 March 2012 at Dewan bestari, JPN, Melaka. Although we have finished doing the form 3 poems and novel, I found the course interesting. The course covered the 2 poems Leisure, A Fighter's Lines and the novel, How I Met Myself. Finally, we receiced the CDC Modules. Thank you to all the facilitators and participants who made the course fun and interesting

Briefing & Pre survey of OPS English

On 20th March 2012, we did a briefing of OPS English to form 1 students at the hall after the weekly assembly. Pn Wan Hailah, the English form 1 coordinator gave the briefing and after recess the students were called to the language lab to answer the pre -survey questionaires. Apart from minor technical glitch, everything else went quite smoothly that day. Mr. Aki Azizan, the Melaka Tengah DELO came to see the running of the pre survey at MOZAC.

Oral Proficiency in English for Secondary Schools (OPS English)

MOZAC is among the 20 schools nation wide selected to do a pilot project for this programme - Oral Proficiency in English for Secondary Schools (OPS English). Three form 1 teachers, Pn. Norizah Baba, Pn Wan Hailah Wan Yahya and En. Ahmad Rizal Aziz attended a 5-day course at English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC), Kuala Lumpur. From 20th February till May 2012, the form 1 students are going to do this programme which focuses on speaking.

Pledge & Diagnostic Test

The new form 1 students started formal lessons last week. I have 1 form 1 class this year which is 1 Omega. It has been a long time since I last taught Form 1....I was as nervous as the students ( not really) when I entered the class...I hope I have the patience to deal with the newest kid on the block who are still very much looking and behaving like primary students....all those innocent faces. Here are a few photos of my form 1 Omega students when they made a pledge to try their best in learning English. There are also photos of them taking a diagnostic test.

doppel – double (look alike)
ganger – goer (move from one place to another)

A doppelgänger is a ghostly double of a living person.
A doppelgänger can be seen by its “owner”.
It comes to its "owner" to give messages about danger or to offer advice.According to popular belief, meeting a doppelgänger brings bad luck, leads to a serious problem or even death! A doppelganger can sometimes be seen by somebody who is close to that person, if it has an important message. Watch this video:

The story of John Donne & Anne Moore



John Donne is a poet, a lawyer and a priest. His wife, Anne Moore was pregnant.
One day, John went to Paris leaving his pregnant wife in England.While in Paris, Anne’s doppelganger appeared in front of John.The doppelganger of his wife was holding a newborn baby. The doppelganger looked sad.At the same time that the doppelganger appeared (in Paris), his wife had given birth to a stillborn child (in England).Anne’s doppelganger was trying to tell John that she had delivered their baby but the baby was dead at birth.

How I Met Myself

I was browsing the net for ideas and reference for the new form 3 novel when I came across Teacher Nuha's blog. In her blog, there's a link to a really cool site called My Heritage that later brought me to these fun apps called My celebrity look -alikes and celebrity morph. It is a fun activity to introduce the word 'doppleganger'. I agree with her when she said that meeting an evil doppleganger can be spine chilling but the idea of knowing celebrities you resemble can both be fun and hilarious...I found the kid in me again as I anxiously waiting for the results...well, here goes nothing....LOL


I might not know all of them...I mean who is Matshushima Nanako? I ought to watch more Japanese and Korean movies but at least, it's fun to know that Cindy Crawford, Jessica Biel and yours truly share some resemblance...hahahaha. Well, who's your doppleganger? Speaking Skill - My Classmates

Since we didn't have enough time to do the speaking skill activities for the form 1 students last week, we did it in class. In a much smaller classrooms, I think the activities went well as students had fun asking questions to answer the questions given. From my observation, there are a few students who are still shy and seemed 'lost' amidst the "chaotic" but fun class. All in all the students had a lot of fun, asking and getting to know their friends. The best thing is everybody tried their best to get the answer and everybody uses ENGLISH - objective achieved! Thanks to Pn. Rahmah for sharing the questions.

Dictionary & Reading Skills Workshop

The new form 1 students of MOZAC are exposed to 2 important skills in English by the form 1 teachers. Puan Wan Hailah conducted the dictionary skills and later En. Ahmad Rizal did reading skills with the students. It is hoped that the form one students are able to use these skills in learning English.

Activities 2011

As the year draws near to the end, I think MOZAC ELD has done quite a lot despite the busy school calendar. These are some of the activities that we have done in 2011











Thank you to the teachers and students who have made it such a memorable year.2012 is going to be another challenging year for us @ MOZAC. Hopefully, we will be able to face the challenge and hopefully the results for English will increase too. Let's hope for the best.

Happy Retirement

On 9th November, we bid good bye to another dear friend - Madam Ivy Foo Siew Lan, an English teacher at MOZAC for 23 years. She will reach her retirement day in December so the school decided to have it earlier while school is still in session. It is indeed a teary occasion especially for the English teachers. Kak Long as she is fondly called by us advised the students to study hard and to always appreciate their parents and teachers. All teachers must have the passion for the profession and always be sincere in teaching the students. I worked with some ex students who are now studying abroad and produced a farewell video and retirement wishes to her.Students from United States, Australia, Praque, Ireland, Japan and Indonesia did short video clips for their special teacher. The form 4 students did another video on her teaching career. Thank you Madam Ivy..you will be greatly missed by all of us
