Happy Retirement

On 9th November, we bid good bye to another dear friend - Madam Ivy Foo Siew Lan, an English teacher at MOZAC for 23 years. She will reach her retirement day in December so the school decided to have it earlier while school is still in session. It is indeed a teary occasion especially for the English teachers. Kak Long as she is fondly called by us advised the students to study hard and to always appreciate their parents and teachers. All teachers must have the passion for the profession and always be sincere in teaching the students. I worked with some ex students who are now studying abroad and produced a farewell video and retirement wishes to her.Students from United States, Australia, Praque, Ireland, Japan and Indonesia did short video clips for their special teacher. The form 4 students did another video on her teaching career. Thank you Madam Ivy..you will be greatly missed by all of us

Item Building - Tokoh NILAM 2011

Item building for comunication part/session was held at Bahagian Teknologi Pendidikan, Melaka for two days. The panel was asked to come up with questions for selection of "Tokoh NILAM" 2011. 4 secondary English teachers and 4 primary English teachers were called to come up with the questions/module for English Communication Session. I was asked to lead the secondary team consisting of 3 other master teachers. After 2 days, we managed to come up with quite a comprehensive module. It was indeed a fruitful session for all of us. Thanks to Pn. Madia and Pn. Mages for making it enjoyable and possible.

English @ Tiara Beach Resort, Port Dickson

The final preparation for MOZAC students before SPM was done at Tiara Beach Resort, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. This programme was held from 30th October - 4 November 2011 involving all the subjects. This time, the focus was on LITERATURE, LITERATURE AND LITERATURE especially the personal response. In groups, students were asked to brainstorm and later write their answers with detailed textual evidence. The reponses were later checked by the teachers and a compilation of the answers were given after the Hari Raya Haji break. On the last Saturday before SPM, the teachers once again went through the answers with the students. It is hoped that with all the programmes done, the English language results will be better this time.

Team teaching @ MOZAC

We tried another approach in teaching and learning process which is team teaching. This was done for a period of 2 weeks starting from 17 - 28 October 2011. The idea is to have 2,3 teachers in one class at certain hours. English is given 4 hours which is from 10.50 1.50 and from 2.30 - 3.30 every day. During this period Puan Amesah,Puan Rita and I decided to focus on writing. The first week, we tackled Directed Writing and on the second week we did Continuous Writing. The 1 hour in the afternoon was spent doing Section A, B and C. With this approach, the students were divided into groups and were able to work with their peers and teachers as the number is small. Peer coaching was done while the teachers focused on weaker students.

Welcome Philippines Science High School

On 13 -16 October 2011, 5 students and a teacher from Philippines Science High School visited MOZAC. Puan Norizah, Pn. Ivy and Pn. Amesah welcomed them and gave a briefing on MOZAC. Later the 5 students were placed in 5 different classes and took part in all the activities done by MOZAC students. They were also brought to various tourists spots in Melaka.

Immersion Programme with SMV Datuk Seri Mohd Zin, Alor Gajah/MRSM TGB

MOZAC invited SMV Datuk Seri Mohd Zin, Alor Gajah, Melaka to a three day immersion programme , on 9 - 11 September 2011 involving subjects like English, Sejarah, Pendidikan Islam, Bahasa melayu and Mathematics. For English, we did a Reading Comprehension/Summary and Literature Revision (Poems) to prepare the students for Melaka trial the next week.

We did another immersion program. This is the first time both schools collaborated involving all the F5 teachers of both schools and about 600 students all together. Since it's involving a large number of students, the teachers of both schools worked together to produce materials for the students. The immersion programme was held at MRSM TGB from 10 - 13 October 2012. It involves all the 10 subjects. The teachers took turn to handle the sessions. For English we decided to do a literature revision for all the four poems since both schools are doing different novels. The students were given all possible questions on the poems as final revision for Section D. It is hoped that students from both schools will do well for English papers in SPM.

Exam Answering Techniques

This year, i had to turned down many invitations to give a talk due to busy schedule at school. Being one of the high performance schools, there are many activities done at school level and on top of that we have to make sure that our results is good. Nevertheless, I managed to do 2 workshops on exam techniques:

1. In collaboration with BAKTI, I gave a talk to 250 students from various schools in Melaka at Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh.

2. Then with collaboration with Majlis Guru Cemerlang, Melaka, I gave a talk to F5 boys of SMK Tahfiz Cenderah, Jasin. It's a programme held at Bidara Resort, tanjung Bidara.

I hope that the students will do well in their trial exam and ace their English papers during SPM. Good luck and all the best.

This time I did a writing workshop with the girls covering Directed Writing, Continuous Writing and also Personal response for Literature.
